Construction of a staircase and landscaping in Ménerbes

In Ménerbes, our team landscaped the grounds of this stone property to make it easier to move between the different levels of the garden while preserving its Provençal character.

The sloping terrain required us to create comfortable, durable access routes that would naturally connect the different areas without compromising the property’s existing architecture.

A wide travertine staircase was built to create a striking approach to the house. The rhythm of the steps and landings follows the natural slope, while the stone’s pale tones complement the existing façades and walls. Several pathways were also created using mortared irregular stone paving (opus incertum). Each stone was carefully selected and fitted by hand to ensure a harmonious transition between the staircase, access routes and different areas of the garden.

On either side of the staircase, we created planting beds featuring Mediterranean plants: cypress trees, olive trees, evergreen shrubs and perennials. Local rocks were incorporated into the planting to complement the site’s natural stone features. A drip irrigation system completes the landscaping, helping the new plants establish themselves while keeping water consumption under control.

The result : completely redesigned pathways that blend seamlessly into the property, combining landscape masonry, Mediterranean planting and natural materials while preserving the distinctive character of Ménerbes.
